  • 2007/05/03: Screening of Chris Miles' film Lord Elgin and Some Stones of No Value in Stephen Lawrence Building, Room 101, Maritime Campus, University of Greenwich, SE10 9LS.

The film tells the story of the acquisition of some sculptures in 1802 by Lord Elgin, the then British Ambassador in Constantinople. Shot on location in Greece and using contemporary reports, engravings and letters, the programme also shows the actors themselves discussing the dramatised scenes and historical events they depict. The actors argue both for and against Lord Elgin's activities. The cast includes Nigel Havers playing Lord Elgin and in one of his first films, Hugh Grant playing William Hamilton.

The Director, Christopher Miles, will be available for comments and questions after the screening. Entry by invitation: Please print this invitation to obtain access to the Maritime Campus. For directions click here. Nearest stations are Cutty Sark on the DLR and Greenwich Rail station.
